Security Report: April 4 – April 10, 2013

Thursday, April 4

4:03 p.m. A student reported the theft of approximately $120 from her wallet while she was working at the Dascomb Hall kitchen. The wallet was in a backpack that she placed in the hallway while working. All other items in the backpack and wallet were intact.

Friday, April 5

4:30 p.m. An officer conducting a fire drill in Asia House was given a wallet found on the lawn between Carnegie Building and Stevenson Hall. After confiscating a fake ID, the wallet was returned to the owner.

7:27 p.m. A student reported the theft of her bicycle, which was secured to the bike rack on the west side of Stevenson Hall before break. The bicycle is a black men’s Trek with a road bike frame and tires, flat handlebars, a black water bottle holder and a zippered pouch under the seat.

Saturday, April 6

10:51 a.m. Officers were requested to assist a visiting baseball coach who was hit in the face with a baseball. The individual was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital by ambulance.

7:08 p.m. A student reported being followed by an intoxicated male who had blond hair and was approximately 20 years old from Warner Center to the Science Center. At approximately 7:20 p.m., a second call was received stating that the individual was in the area of North Main Street. Officers and members of the Oberlin Police Department responded. The individual was located and transported to his home on North Main Street by the Oberlin Police.

Sunday, April 7

12:49 a.m. Officers assisted a student ill from alcohol consumption on the third floor of East Hall. The student was able to answer all questions and walk on his own. He declined medical attention and was escorted to his room.

6:27 p.m. The Oberlin Fire Department requested that a Safety and Security officer meet with them at the Allen Art Building after receiving a report of smoke in the area. The smoke was found to be from a structure set on fire between trees. No one was found in the area. The incident is under investigation.

8:10 p.m. An officer on patrol observed that a capstone had been knocked off the stone wall alongside South Hall. The capstone was replaced and a work order was filed.

Monday, April 8

7:30 p.m. Two students walking in the Arboretum reported an abandoned rifle on the ground. Officers and members of the Oberlin Police responded. The broken air rifle was located and taken by the police.

9:30 p.m. Officers were requested to assist an ill employee at Stevenson Hall. The employee was transported by ambulance to Elyria Memorial Hospital.

11:23 p.m. A student reported the theft of his bicycle, which had been locked to itself, from a friend’s home on Elmwood. The bicycle is a blue Bianchi 21-speed with black handlebar tape and rear racks. The bicycle is registered with the city of Oberlin.

Wednesday, April 10

11:35 a.m. Officers responded to are port of the odor of a substance consistent with burnt marijuana on the first floor of East Hall. The odor was found to be strongest in the laundry room. No one was observed to be in the area, but the windows were opened for ventilation.

10:30 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a dog in one of the Goldsmith apartments. The officer made contact with the occupant and explained that animals in the apartments are not allowed.
