Security Report: March 7 – March 12, 2013

Thursday, March 7

1:05 a.m. A student reported witnessing an individual attempting to climb up the north wall of King Building at approximately 12:30 a.m. Officers responded, but did not locate the individual.

1:21 a.m. Two students reported the theft of two cell phones from their coat pockets while at the ’Sco. One phone is an iPhone 4 with no case and the other is an iPhone 5 in a bright lime green case.

12:05 p.m. A student reported a suspicious male, wearing a green jacket and carrying a poster, walking south on the west side of South Hall. Officers in the area located the individual. He was identified as a College employee who lives on Forest Street.

12:51 p.m. A student reported that a suspicious male shouted at her from a car on Wednesday night at approximately 9:55 p.m. in the area of Professor Street, between College Street and Lorain Street. She could not provide a description of the vehicle.

Friday, March 8

4:57 a.m. An officer on routine patrol observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Professor Street.The vehicle turned eastbound on College Street. A description and license plate number was relayed to the Oberlin Police Department.

10:25 p.m. Officers responded to a complaint of someone smoking on the second floor of Barrows Hall. The occupant of the room in question was notified that they were in violation of College policy. A small bottle containing a substance consistent with marijuana and a white pipe were turned over to the Oberlin Police Department, and a bottle of vodka was confiscated.

Saturday, March 9

6:01 p.m. Three students reported that, while walking in the crosswalk from Tappan Square to the bookstore, an older male driving a blue newer-model vehicle sped up and almost hit them. A search of the area was made for the vehicle with no results. The incident was reported to the Oberlin Police Department.

9:24 p.m. Students reported that, while crossing the street at Lorain Street and Pleasant Street, occupants of a white or silver truck threw eggs at them. No additional description of the occupants or truck could be given. The students were transported to their off-campus residence. A search of the area was made for the vehicle with no results.

10:52 p.m. Officers responded to a report of students on the roof of Harkness House. However, no students were observed on the roof upon the officer’s arrival. A slight haze of cigarette smoke was detected in the third-floor hallway, and a small group of individuals were observed consuming alcohol. The occupants of the room were cooperative, and the guests agreed to leave.

11:43 p.m. Officers were requested at Johnson House to assist in shutting down an unauthorized party on the second floor. Approximately 32 students were dispersed from the room, and officers confiscated and disposed of the alcohol.

Sunday, March 10

12:47 a.m. Students reported that approximately 10 minutes earlier, while exiting Kahn Hall, an unknown individual threw an apple and a full bottle of water at them, possibly from the second floor. Officers checked the second floor, but could not find the person responsible.

1:18 a.m. Officers responded to a report of fireworks being dis- charged in North Bowl. When the students saw the security officer, they left the area and entered Noah Hall. A work order was filed for cleanup of the area, and an investigation will be conducted. 3:15 a.m. A student reported that the contents of her wallet were stolen while attending an off-campus party when she left her wallet unattended for a short time. Her ID, approximately $60 and her ATM cards were taken. All cards were canceled.

8:56 a.m. An officer responded to a report of vandalism at Dascomb Hall. A toilet paper dispenser was ripped off the stall in the women’s restroom on the first floor. A work order was filed for repair.

1:30 p.m. An officer reported a motor vehicle accident on the corner of Pleasant Street and Lorain Street. The Oberlin Police Department also responded. Both stu- dents involved declined medical attention.

7 p.m. A student reported the theft of his locked bicycle from the bike rack on the east side of Mudd library. The bicycle is a black 21-speed Specialized bike with a chrome water bottle. The bicycle is registered.

10:18 p.m. Officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm, activated by a duct detector, on the first floor of Wright Laboratory of Physics. An HVAC staff member and an electrician were called for repairs, and the alarm was reset.

Monday, March 11

10:40 a.m. A staff member at the Service Building reported that at approximately 10:10 a.m., a purple Audi convertible was observed driving down the east side of the Service Building on the sidewalk at high speed and hit a rock on the west side of the sidewalk. Officers checked all of the parking lots, but were not able to locate the vehicle. The information was relayed to the Oberlin Police Department.

Tuesday, March 12

1:49 a.m. A resident of Dascomb Hall reported a suspicious minivan parked on the street in front of Dascomb with its flashers on. The vehicle then left and returned a short time later. Security officers and an Oberlin Police officer made a check of the area. The only vehicle officers observed was the temporary minivan used as the shuttle bus. Additional patrols of the area were conducted through- out the evening.

11:43 p.m. Officers observed juveniles walking near north quad. Members of the Oberlin Police also responded. An unidentified juvenile ran upon being approached by officers, and the Oberlin Police took the second juvenile into custody.
