Splash ‘N Dash Triathlon Sets Sights on Community Outreach

The swimming and diving team is hosting its Splash ’N Dash triathlon, set for Saturday, May 12 at 10 a.m. beginning at Philips Gymnasium. The Splash ’N Dash consists of a sprint triathlon involving 500 yards of swimming in Carr Pool, a 20-kilometer bike ride towards Lake Erie and a 5-kilometer run along the Oberlin cross country trail. It is open to community members and Oberlin staff as well as students. One of the unique features of the Splash ’N Dash is that it can be completed individually or as a team of three. First-year diving phenom Chris McLauchlan blew away his competition at the Division III NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis from March 21–23. McLauchlan notched not one but two All-American spots by finishing seventh in both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives, adding to the College’s impressive swimming and diving pedigree by becoming its 23rd All-American. At Wooster Invitational, Swim Team Earns Superb Results and Breaks Records

The Oberlin swim teams contin- ued their strong start to the season, exceeding the teams’ expectations by swimming to respectable finishes at the Wooster Invitational from Dec. 3-5. The Yeowomen, spurred on by record-breaking performances, placed in fourth out of a field of 10 with a total of 881.50 points — their best finish ever at the Wooster Invitational. The men’s team finished sixth out of 10 with a total of 717 points, a solid performance given the team’s lack of numbers compared to its competitors.
