Last week, on Bailey Field, the Oberlin men’s lacrosse team asserted that they are a force to be reckoned with in the NCAC this year. With a dominant win over Westminster College (PA) and a gritty victory over Trine University, Oberlin moved to 2–0, before dropping a midweek game to Baldwin Wallace University on March 4.
The success was in large part thanks to an invaluable effort from their attackmen, including second-year Nicholas Cuda, who took home NCAC Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in his young career. Coming off a robust 2025 campaign that saw new, impactful contributors and some key returners, it seems we can expect more of the same from men’s lacrosse so far and potentially something even better for this season. Starting strong with a commanding 3–1 record appears only to be the beginning of what is shaping up to be a fun season for the team up to this point.
Coming off his first accolade as a Yeoman, Cuda offered some encouraging words about what the season may hold for the team and his teammates.
“Super excited to see what our new guys can do,” Cuda remarked. “[We have] a ton of freshmen [who] are looking to see a lot of playing time this year. Be on the lookout for both offense and defense, not to mention our new brick wall in-net, Nolan [Grieshaber].”
This excitement also is well-aligned with the goals of this year’s men’s lacrosse team. These goals were articulated by third-year Colin Taylor, who plays defense for the Yeomen.
“Our goal every season is to win the NCAC championship,” Taylor stated. “At the same time, we focus on improving day by day and continuing to push each other to higher levels each week.”
Taylor was named a Preseason All-American before the start of this season.
Another reason for the early success of the Yeomen is in large part due to their team culture, according to second-year midfielder Joe Chai.
“The team culture is definitely strong this year,” Chai said. “I think we all hold each other to high standards. Off the field, we’re all best friends, so it makes it easy to gel on the field.”
Keep an eye out for the Yeomen as they take on (RV) Elmhurst University at 1 p.m. this Saturday in Illinois.
