Voters went to the polls Tuesday, March 19 to vote in primary and special elections in Lorain County. 48,687 citizens cast their votes in Lorain County, making up 22.1 percent of registered voters. President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump won the Ohio Democratic presidential primary and Ohio Republican presidential primary, respectively, by large margins. Trump-backed businessman Bernie Moreno won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, receiving 50.5 percent of the vote in a contested senate primary. His opponents, State Senator Matt Dolan and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, received 32.9 percent of the vote and 16.6 percent of the vote, respectively. Moreno will face incumbent Democratic senator Sherrod Brown in the fall. All proposed amendments to the Oberlin City Charter passed except for Issue 9, which would have lengthened City Council terms to four years. Presently, all results are unofficial.
