I like to find inherent beauty in
a world whose art is worth responding to;
if in our lives there’s nothing else to do,
at least there’s the art of conversation.
It doesn’t take much knowledge to begin
to talk and wonder alongside a few,
just deciding what about to argue
and pushing against one’s own opinion
of which color we gave a name to first.
I can’t believe that with your “Absolute”
idea, you have yet to read Hegel;
when we talk again at the next breakfast
I’ll bring his thesis on art and God’s truth
along with my own gluten-free bagel.
