Men’s Lacrosse Bolsters Philanthropic Efforts

Men’s Lacrosse Bolsters Philanthropic Efforts

October 5, 2018

Oberlin Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Topher Grossman has always believed in the importance of giving back. Most collegiate athletic teams, at Oberlin and elsewhere, may partner with a local non-profit throughout their season, or maybe play an “awareness game” or two, where baked goods are sold for medical research. The men’s lacrosse team, however, has taken its philanthropic goals a step further and partnered with University Hospital Rainbow Babies, a local branch of the Pediatric Bra...

The men’s lacrosse team ended their season with a 14–13 victory against the DePauw University Tigers last Saturday. The win capped off a three-game win streak that helped them finish on a high note after an overall disappointing season, hopefully building some positive momentum going in to next season. With an 8–7 record, 3–5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, the Yeomen will not compete in the playoffs but have enough reason to be optimistic about next spring. Senior attack John S...

In a 19–3 season-opening victory over the Adrian College Bulldogs Saturday, the men’s lacrosse team displayed the offensive weapons, impenetrable defense, and depth necessary to turn a good team into a great one. Last spring, the team went 6–9 overall and 2–6 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, but expectations have risen. College senior and captain Steve Kelleher said he believes this might be a special year. “I think we have a great chance to make it to the conference tournament th...

Yeomen Gear Up for Final NCAC Games

April 7, 2017

The Yeomen are fighting tooth and nail for a winning season as they edge closer to their final games with an overall 4–6 season and 0–3 conference record. Most recently, The College of Wooster Fighting Scots set the team back with a 13–8 loss last Saturday. “The Wooster game was an example of us not putting together a 60 minute game,” Head Coach Topher Grossman said. “Mental lapses in the second quarter put us in a hole that was too big to climb out of. We need to run the table if...

After losing 10 seniors to graduation last year, seven of whom were starters, Head Coach Topher Grossman said this year’s squad is experiencing some growing pains. “I think we’ve found out that we have a lot to learn,” Grossman said. “We have a lot of areas we...

The loss extended Oberlin’s 19-year losing streak against Kenyon and effectively ended the Yeomen’s playoff hopes. “I think we were ready for the game, we were well-prepared; we just didn’t perform,” said senior captain and midfielder Sean Seaman. “We didn’t come out with enough energy and...
