Following the retirement of longtime Dean of Admissions Debra Chermonte last fall, College President Marvin Krislov created a search committee of 10 members to help select a replacement to lead the admissions office. Physics Professor and Search Committee Chair Yumi Ijiri said the group had met in the fall but then delayed future meetings and the formal announcement for the committee until releasing an online advertisement last week. The consulting firm Witt/Kieffer is conducting the search and published the ad. “We were announced, maybe not as widely in faculty notes, but we didn’t bother to say, ‘Hey, we’re here’ until we were actually going,” Ijiri said. “We put it on hold to align it better with the ...

Following a slew of elections and interviews, the top three candidates for each of the five remaining spots on the Presidential Search Committee have been chosen. The two candidates from each group who aren’t selected to the committee will still participate in next semester’s interviews with presidential candidates. Many nominees said they were pleased...

These elections will pick a slate of three nominees who will then interview with the six trustees to determine a finalist. Elections for non-student representatives are ending today. Unlike the four other groups, student nominees will not be chosen by a general election. Instead, Student Senate decided to send...

This time around, selecting a candidate capable of supporting the goals of the Center will in part be up to the students. Two listening sessions launched a series of discussions designed to assess how students interpret the traits and responsibilities necessary of a capable...

A search committee comprised of faculty, staff and students will meet for the first time this week to kick off the hunt for a new director of the Multicultural Resource Center. Former Associate Dean for Academic Diversity Director Alison Williams left her post at Oberlin College to take on the role of associate provost for diversity and intercultural education at Denison University earlier this summer. Williams began her tenure at Oberlin in September 2012. “The thing that we’re most excited about in the search is the opportunity to hear what students are interested in and what their priorities are for the director of the Center,” said Kristen Surla, Asian and Pacific Islander Diaspora Community Coordinator. Dean...
