Thursday, April 14, 2022

5:31 p.m. Campus Safety officers and Oberlin Fire Department members responded to a fire alarm at a Union Street Housing Unit. Overheated oil created smoke, activating the fire alarm. The room was ventilated and the alarm was reset.

7:39 p.m. Officers and Oberlin Fire Department members responded to a fire alarm on the first floor of Lord House. Smoke from burnt food activated the alarm. The area was ventilated and the alarm was reset.

10:30 a.m. A student reported their bicycle missing from an unknown bike rack on campus. The bike is a vintage series Magna Mountain bike and is white, turquoise, and pink. It has a small black seat, green brake cables, and is valued at approximately $100.

Saturday, April 16, 2022

12:23 a.m. A student reported charges on their Oberlin ID card not made by them. Amounts were unknown at the time of the report. Further investigation will be conducted.

12:43 a.m. Officers were requested to assist a student, ill from alcohol consumption, at Keep Cottage. The student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital by the officers.

1:57 a.m. Officers at the Campus Safety Office heard loud thumping coming from the roof. Upon checking the area, several students, who had accessed the roof from a second-floor window, were observed. The students were identified and advised of the hazards of being on the roof. 

12:52 p.m. An officer assisting a student moving out of Dascomb Hall observed drug paraphernalia in plain view. Two glass bongs, a grinder containing a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana, a bong mouthpiece, and a lighter were confiscated. All items were turned over to the Oberlin Police Department. The officer also observed a bagged smoke detector and removed the bag.

5:24 p.m. A student reported the theft of their unlocked, unregistered bicycle from Kahn Hall. The bicycle is a turquoise Schwinn with a large wicker basket. The value of the bicycle is between $300 and $500.

5:47 p.m. Officers and Oberlin Fire Department members responded to a fire alarm at a Union Street Housing Unit. Upon arrival, officers observed smoke coming from the stove exhaust as a result of a dirty oven. The area was ventilated and the alarm was reset.

Sunday, April 17, 2022

3:25 p.m. A student reported two people in a red SUV throwing eggs at individuals walking on South Professor Street. Officers and Oberlin Police Department members responded and identified the owner. The vehicle was found to have been borrowed by friends and the owner apologized for their actions.

3:32 p.m. A student reported an individual panhandling inside of Wilder Hall. A description was given and officers located the individual on the north side of Wilder. Oberlin Police also responded. The individual was identified and warned about being on campus and inside of buildings. The individual then left the area.

6:24 p.m. Officers were requested to assist a student at Dascomb Hall who was possibly having an allergic reaction. The student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital emergency room for treatment.

7:52 p.m. A resident of South Hall reported a strange odor coming from the first floor of the northeast stairwell. Officers, a maintenance technician, and Oberlin Fire Department members responded. Areas of South Hall were checked and no issues were located. When a second check of the same area was made at 9:30 p.m. and the odor was still there, a work order was filed.

7:56 p.m. A resident of a Village Housing Unit on North Pleasant Street reported an odor of gas in the apartment’s kitchen area. Officers, a maintenance technician, and Oberlin Fire Department members responded. All areas of the complex were checked for a gas leak with negative results.

4:25 p.m. Officers and Oberlin Fire Department members responded to a fire alarm at a Union Street Housing Unit. Smoke from burnt food activated the alarm, which was reset.
