Thursday, May 2, 2019 7:01 a.m. Campus Safety officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in a room on the third floor of South Hall. While in the room in question, two bongs, a grinder, and glass jar containing a substance consistent with marijuana were observed in plain view. The items were turned over to the Oberlin Police Department. Facilities Operations responded to replace the smoke detector and the alarm was reset. 11:00 p.m. Officers responded to an anonymous report of a non-student inside Talcott Hall who was not supposed to be on campus. Thursday, March 21, 2019 9:46 p.m. Residential Education staff conducting life safety inspections in Burton Hall reported locating empty beer cans, a glass bong, and a bagged smoke detector in a room on the second floor. The bong was turned over to the Oberlin Police Department, and the plastic bag was removed from the detector. Friday, March 22, 2019 5:14 p.m. A Campus Safety officer on routine patrol of the College ash dump reported that three individuals ran from a smokey area. Members of the Oberlin Police Department and Lorain County Sheriff’s Office also responded. Thursday, March 7, 2019 12:09 a.m. Campus Safety officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Barrows Hall. Officers noted an odor of burnt marijuana and a slight haze near a room on the third floor. The alarm was reset. 11:22 a.m. A student reported their bicycle was stolen from the Woodland Street parking lot. The bicycle was locked to a pole at the time of the theft. 1:15 p.m. Custodial staff reported several instances of vandalism on the second and third floors of South Hall. Exit signs were damaged, kitchen countertops had been carved with sharp objects, and various areas were graffitied. A jewelry box, two candles, and a ring holder had been taken. 10:14 p.m. Campus Safety officers were requested to assist an ill student in Kahn Hall. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019 4:11 a.m. Campus Safety officers were requested to assist an ill student in East Hall. The student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital for treatment. 11:26 a.m. A student reported that their backpack was lost or stolen, possibly from the patio of the Kohl Building. The backpack contained a MacBook laptop, blue Beats headphones, a manuscript, and a blue accordion folder. 4:00 p.m. Officers were requested to assist with a Life Safety inspection on the third floor of Talcott Hall. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019 8:51 p.m. Campus Safety officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a Village Housing Unit. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. The area was cleared and the alarm was reset. Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 7:43 p.m. Officers were requested to assist an ill student in East Hall. Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 8:40 a.m. Campus Safety officers received a report that a staff member was stuck in an elevator at Wilder Hall. When officers arrived, the individual had escaped the elevator. The elevator was put temporarily out of service and an electrician was called. 6:04 p.m. Officers were requested to help remove an unwelcome, non-Oberlin College individual from a dance class at Hales Gymnasium. The individual was located and left the area without incident. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 5:46 p.m. A student reported that they were approached and punched by an unknown man while walking through Tappan Square at approximately 1:30 a.m. The man then ran in an unknown direction. The incident is under investigation. 6:00 p.m. While patrolling the Adam Joseph Lewis Center, a Safety and Security officer found an expended fire extinguisher near an electrical transformer.
