Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017  1:11 a.m. Safety and Security Officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a Goldsmith Village Housing Unit. The residents of the apartment had just arrived when the alarm was activated. An electrician changed the detector head, and the alarm was reset. 12:20 p.m. Staff members of the Science Center reported graffiti in the women’s restroom on the first floor. A work order was filed, and the graffiti was removed. 1:20 p.m. A bagged smoke detector was reported by facilities staff members on the third floor of Langston Hall. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 4:00 a.m. Safety and Security officers assisted a student, ill from alcohol consumption, in Langston Hall. The student was conscious, answered all questions, and said they would stay with a friend for the night. 12:37 p.m. Student Union staff turned in a coat left in Wilder Hall. The coat contained a wallet with cash and a bottle with a green, leafy substance consistent with marijuana. The bottle was turned over to the Oberlin Police Department and the coat and wallet were released to the student owner. 2:33 p.m. Officers assisted an ill student in the Science Center. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 1:31 a.m. A student reported a confrontation with a man taking his bike from the Wright Laboratory of Physics at approximately 1 a.m. When the student approached the individual, he returned the bicycle and left the area. Officers of the Oberlin Police Department also checked the area for the individual, but he was not located. 2:29 p.m. A student reported the theft of their bicycle sometime during spring semester from the bike rack outside of Zechiel House. The bicycle was first noticed missing in April 2017 but was not reported at the time. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017 1:36 p.m. An Oberlin resident reported an apparent garage break-in at a Woodland Street Village Housing Unit. A window on the north side of the building was broken, and a door on the second floor was open. Safety and Security officers responded and a work order was filed for repair. Friday, Oct. 20, 2017 No reports. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 No reports. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 7:15 a.m. A groundskeeper reported damage to a wooden bollard in the parking lot adjacent to Williams Field House. The bollard was most likely hit by a vehicle, which knocked it out of the ground. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 1:44 p.m. While conducting a Village Housing inspection on Woodland Street, a staff member found a sign from the athletics department on a wall inside the house. A follow-up will be conducted. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 12:08 a.m. Safety and Security Officers were requested to investigate a strong burning odor on the second floor of Dascomb Hall. The building was evacuated as members of the Oberlin Fire Department arrived. A smoldering towel had been thrown into the trashcan, which then ignited. A work order was filed for cleanup. 10:53 a.m. A bicycle and motor vehicle accident at the intersection of South Professor and West College Streets was reported. The bicycle was registered. 6:55 p.m. Safety and Security officers assisted a student who fell off a skateboard and injured their knee in front of Bosworth Hall. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 12:19 p.m. A student reported the theft of their bicycle July 10 from an unknown location on campus. The bicycle is registered, and valued at $200. 6:37 p.m. Safety and Security officers assisted a student who fell off their bike in front of the King Building. The student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital for treatment. 7:52 p.m. Officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a Goldsmith Village Housing Unit. The officer was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital for treatment. 11:50 a.m. A student reported the possible misuse of their credit card. Members of the Oberlin Police Department also responded. Thursday, April 20 2:27 a.m. Students reported an unknown individual walking out of their Union Street apartment. The Oberlin Police Department responded. Nothing was reported missing or damaged. Thursday, April 6 11:15 a.m. Conservatory staff reported that posters advertising performances were torn down from various areas in the Conservatory. The incident is under investigation. 4:36 p.m. Safety and Security officers assisted an injured staff member at the Philips gym weight room. The individual received a 3–4-inch laceration on their head when a hook fell o a rack, striking them. The individual went to the emergency room on their own. Friday, April 7 10:36 a.m. Custodial staff at Langston Hall reported a student near the first floor with what appeared to be grafiti supplies. The student left the area prior to an officer’s arrival.
