Thursday, October 31, 2019 12:30 a.m. A Campus Safety officer on patrol observed an individual struggling to walk near Wilder Hall. The officer approached the student, and detected a strong odor of alcohol. The individual was identified as a student, answered all questions asked, and was assisted to their room for the night. 1:20 a.m. Officers were requested to assist with a student who was ill from alcohol consumption in the bathroom of Price House. The student was located and was coherent. The student answered all questions asked and was able to walk on their own. Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 9:37 a.m. Campus Safety Officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the second floor of Barrows Hall. Burnt food had activated the alarm. The area was cleared and the alarm reset. 2:57 p.m. Staff reported a strange odor at Burrell-King House. Officers and an HVAC technician responded, and the house was evacuated. It was determined that carbon monoxide gas was coming from the hot water heater and boiler area. The boiler and water heater were shut off for repairs, and the house was aired out. The student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital for treatment. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019 2:20 a.m. Officers discovered two students inside the Heisman Club Field House. The students were identified and warned about being inside College buildings after hours. 4:10 p.m. Officers were called to Stevenson Dining Hall kitchen regarding the theft of a set of cooking knives. The student was transported to the Mercy Allen Hospital emergency room. Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 6:34 p.m. Officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the third floor of East Hall. An electrician responded and changed a faulty detector. Friday, Sept. 20, 2019 7:28 a.m. Custodial staff reported that unknown person(s) hung a banner on the wall at Fairchild House and paint from the banner had bled through to the wall. Facilities personnel responded to check on various alarms on campus. 3:57 p.m. Campus Safety officers responded after receiving several reports of an unattended suitcase in the atrium closet in Robertson Hall. The building was temporarily evacuated. The suitcase was checked and found to be empty and was disposed of by officers. 4:35 p.m. A student reported the theft of their bicycle from the front of South Hall sometime overnight. The bicycle is a black 10-speed with quick-release tires and valued at approximately $250. Thursday, May 2, 2019 7:01 a.m. Campus Safety officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in a room on the third floor of South Hall. While in the room in question, two bongs, a grinder, and glass jar containing a substance consistent with marijuana were observed in plain view. The items were turned over to the Oberlin Police Department. Facilities Operations responded to replace the smoke detector and the alarm was reset. 11:00 p.m. Officers responded to an anonymous report of a non-student inside Talcott Hall who was not supposed to be on campus. Thursday, March 21, 2019 9:46 p.m. Residential Education staff conducting life safety inspections in Burton Hall reported locating empty beer cans, a glass bong, and a bagged smoke detector in a room on the second floor. The bong was turned over to the Oberlin Police Department, and the plastic bag was removed from the detector. Friday, March 22, 2019 5:14 p.m. A Campus Safety officer on routine patrol of the College ash dump reported that three individuals ran from a smokey area. Members of the Oberlin Police Department and Lorain County Sheriff’s Office also responded. Officers noted an odor of burnt marijuana and a slight haze near a room on the third floor. The alarm was reset. 11:22 a.m. A student reported their bicycle was stolen from the Woodland Street parking lot.
