Thursday, May 5, 2022

6:17 p.m. A student reported a panhandler on the sidewalk in front of Burton Hall. They were asking for money and when the student refused, the individual began using offensive language. Campus Safety officers and Oberlin Police Department members responded and located the individual on Prospect Street. Officers warned the individual about being on College property and issued a citation.

6:21 p.m. Officers and the Oberlin Fire Department members responded to a fire alarm at a Goldsmith Village Housing Unit. Smoke from incense activated the smoke detector. The area was checked and the alarm was reset

Friday, May 6, 2022

7:51 p.m. Officers were requested to assist with a student at a Village House on Professor Street who accidentally cut their hand on a whittling tool. The student, along with a friend, were transported to Mercy Health – Allen Hospital for treatment.

9:41 p.m. A resident of a Village Housing Unit on College Street reported suspicious activity in the unit. An iPhone, which did not belong to a resident, was found sitting on a coffee table. Officers checked the residence’s interior and exterior, and they discovered no other suspicious activity.

12:47 a.m. An officer on patrol in the Union Street parking lot observed a stop sign removed from the post on the west end of the lot. A work order was filed.

11:10 a.m. A student requested a transport from Noah Hall to Mercy Health – Allen Hospital and informed officers that their issues were not COVID-19 related.

2:46 p.m. An Allen Memorial Art Museum security officer reported graffiti on a light pole at the north end of the Photo Domes. The graffiti was written with orange spray paint. A work order was filed for cleanup.

4:47 p.m. A student reported ongoing noise and offensive language every night beginning at approximately 10:00 p.m. at Firelands Apartments. Officers responded to Firelands Apartments, located the room, and spoke with a friend of the resident regarding the complaint.

6:59 p.m. A student reported the theft of their unlocked bicycle from the west bike rack at Stevenson Dining Hall. The bicycle is a red-and-white striped Schwinn with red handlebars. The value of the bicycle is unknown

Tuesday, May 10, 2022

11:26 a.m. Student Health staff requested a transport for a student on crutches to Bailey House. The transport was completed.

3:22 p.m. Facilities and Residential Education staff conducting safety inspections reported observing a bagged smoke detector and drug paraphernalia in a Goldsmith Village Housing Unit. An officer responded and confiscated two bongs containing cannabis residue, two boxes of cannabis, and a grinder. The items were turned over to the Oberlin Police Department.
