To the Editors: Congratulations to the Class of 2017! With commencement a few shorts weeks away, this is a joyous and exciting time that ought to be shared with those you love. Celebrate your achievements with friends and family, and thank those on the faculty and staff who have offered you support throughout these last four years. Savor this moment as you prepare to launch your next adventure. This is an important moment in Oberlin’s history as we prepare to bid farewell to President Marvin Krislov and welcome his successor. To the Editors: During the weekend of October 7–9, members of the leadership body of the Oberlin Alumni Association — the Alumni Leadership Council — were in Oberlin for meetings, to participate in the dedication of the Peter B. Lewis Gateway Center and to attend the celebration of the conclusion of the Oberlin Illuminate campaign. As a current member of the ALC, who is serving as the representative of the chartered group the Oberlin Alumni Association of African Ancestry, and who had the privilege of serving as president of the [Alumni] Association during 2005–2007, I thought it might be helpful for the current student body to be provided a brief overview of the Association and the ALC. This overview is importan...

To the Editors: As a first year student, I am sure I never considered what it would be like to be an alumnus of Oberlin College. I am equally certain I did not notice alumni who visited campus throughout the year, let alone make it a point to engage in conversations with them to hear their stories, learn about their career paths or seek their advice. I am delighted that the Alumni Association is committed to changing this perspective. Your Alumni Association actively seeks ways to engage with students both on and off campus. We want to learn what life is like at Oberlin today to discern ways in which alumni can help students succeed at Oberlin and beyond and to forge new intergenerational relationships. We learn so...
