Thursday, Feb. 21
12:09 a.m. Officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the first floor of Harkness House. Upon arrival, officers found that the first floor room was filled with smoke from incense being burned in a cup. The cup was taken outside and extinguished. Incense, candles and an ashtray with ashes were confiscated. The area was cleared, and the alarm was reset.
4:15 p.m. A staff member reported two posters missing from a door on the first floor of Peters Hall. The posters, advertising an upcoming event, had been taken in the past 48 hours.
11:26 p.m. A student staff member reported someone smoking or burning something on the third floor of Dascomb Hall. The room was located, and a Life Safety inspection was performed. Incense was found and confiscated.
Friday, Feb. 22
10:46 a.m. A staff member reported finding a glass pipe in an unoccupied room on the seventh floor of the Firelands apartment complex while an inspection was being conducted. The pipe was confiscated and turned over to the Oberlin Police Department.
4:38 p.m. An officer on patrol of Barrows Hall detected an odor consistent with burnt marijuana coming from a dorm room. The officer made contact with the room’s occupant and observed a small pipe with a residue consistent with marijuana in plain view on a desk. The pipe was confiscated and turned over to the Oberlin Police Department.
9:09 p.m. Residents of a Village Housing unit on North Pleasant Street reported a small stove fire that was extinguished. While one of the residents was making popcorn, hot grease spattered and ignited the oil. A member of the custodial staff responded for clean up. No injuries or damage to the area occurred.
Saturday, Feb. 23
12:27 a.m. Officers were requested at an East College Street Village house to assist a student in clearing uninvited guests from his authorized party. The large crowd was dispersed. While there, an odor of natural gas was detected. Members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded and confirmed a leak. Occupants of the house were evacuated until repairs could be made.
8:55 a.m. Officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in East Hall. Smoke from a burnt bowl of ramen noodles had activated the alarm. The alarm was reset.
10:08 p.m. A student reported the theft of her bicycle from the front of Mudd Library. The large red Jeep brand bicycle was left unlocked at the time of theft.
Sunday, Feb. 24
6:35 a.m. An officer on a routine patrol observed a smoker’s outpost container in pieces near the south side of Zechiel House. A work order was filed with the Grounds Department for repair.
6:50 a.m. An officer on a routine patrol observed an East Hall vending machine with broken glass and all of the snacks removed. A work order was filed for glass cleanup and the vending company was notified.
8:28 a.m. An officer on patrol in the main first floor lounge of South Hall observed a ping pong table that had been vandalized. A work order was filed for repair, and another was filed to clean up the large amount of debris in the lounge.
8:03 p.m. A student reported the theft of her maroon men’s Fuji Sports bicycle, valued at $100, from the north side of Fairchild House. The bicycle was not locked at the time of theft.
Monday, Feb. 25
11:45 a.m. A student reported the theft of her unlocked bicycle from the front of Philips Gym. The bicycle is a men’s 26” light brown All Pro 10-speed bike with a large basket on the back.
12:07 p.m. A student reported losing her wallet somewhere in the area of Goldsmith and Union Street housing. The wallet is a multi-colored Vera Bradley clutch and contained about $5 cash, as well as credit cards and other miscellaneous items.
2:30 p.m. A staff member reported the theft of running shoes from on top of a locker in the faculty and staff locker room at Philips Gym. The shoes are purple Mizuno running sneakers and are valued at approximately $100.
7:34 p.m. Officers and members of the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide detector at a West College Street Village house. An HVAC technician responded and repaired the problem.
Tuesday, Feb. 26
11:15 a.m. Officers were requested to assist an ill student at the Conservatory. An ambulance was requested, and the student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital for medical treatment.
5:58 p.m. A student reported that on Friday, Feb. 22, upon returning to her Village House on Woodland Street, her vehicle hit a patch of ice in the driveway and struck the electrical housing of the gas meter. An electrician was contacted and repaired the damage.
