Thursday, Feb. 24

4:01 a.m. Officers and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the third floor of Dascomb Hall. The alarm was activated by smoke from burnt popcorn. The area was cleared and the alarm reset.

6:36 p.m. Officers and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Talcott Hall. The area was checked and found to be clear. The alarm was silenced and reset.

Friday, Feb. 25

12:29 a.m. Custodial staff reported vandalism in the basement of Wilder Hall. Lighting was knocked down and Styrofoam peanuts were spread throughout the floors in the mail room area.

12:05 p.m. Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at the south entrance to Mercy Allen Hospital. A College-operated vehicle attempted to stop but collided with a vehicle stopped at the stop sign. There was minor damage to the vehicles and no reported injuries.

1:25 p.m. A professor reported that a shoe rack on the second floor of Wilder Hall was crushed by unknown person(s). It was the second time the shoe rack had been damaged.

6:20 p.m. A resident of Dascomb Hall reported the theft of $60 cash from her unlocked room.

Saturday, Feb. 26

12:59 a.m. Officers were requested to assist with an intoxicated student at Firelands. The student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital by ambulance.

2:11 a.m. Officers were requested to assist with an intoxicated student on the northeast side of Philips Gym. The student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital.

10:52 a.m. A student reported the theft of her coat from Philips Gym. The coat, a dark gray Hollister parka, was taken from a bench behind the treadmills on the second floor. The coat is valued at approximately $60.

12:07 p.m. A student reported being stuck in the elevator between the first and second floors at Firelands. An officer responded. The Oberlin Fire Department also responded and was able to free the student. Power to the elevator was turned off until repairs were made.

11:29 p.m. Officers responded to a report of an unauthorized party at Talcott Hall. Loud voices and music were heard coming from a room on the third floor. Occupants of the room in question were cooperative and apologetic. The party was ended.

Sunday, Feb. 27

12:33 a.m. Officers responded to an unauthorized party and noise complaint at a West College Street house. The party was closed down and approximately 200 people were cleared from the house.

12:47 a.m. An Oberlin Police officer reported an individual on trespass notice who was observed exiting a College-owned residence on College Street. The individual was taken into custody and charged with trespassing.

Monday, Feb. 28

3:39 a.m. Officers responded to an alarm sounding at the Goldsmith apartments. Upon entering, three to four feet of water was observed in the basement. Because of transformers in danger of coming in contact with water, the building was evacuated until cleanup was completed.

12:57 p.m. A student reported the theft of her purse from the ’Sco. The purse is tan-colored with a flower pattern and contained $15 cash.

4:20 p.m. A student reported the theft of his wallet from a practice room in Robertson Hall. The room was left unlocked and unattended for approximately five minutes. Missing items included credit cards and a driver’s license. The area was checked but the wallet was not found. Credit cards were canceled.

4:45 p.m. Officers and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the fourth floor of Firelands. Smoke from grease on a drip pan inside an oven activated the alarm. The area was cleared and the alarm reset.

Tuesday, March 1

8:06 a.m. A custodian reported graffiti in the second floor kitchenette of Barrows Hall. Miscellaneous objects were painted on the east wall and an unknown liquid was thrown against the wall. A work order was filed for clean up.

11:15 a.m. Staff at Mudd Library reported the theft of two laptop computers and one external hard drive from the help desk area. The Oberlin Police Department was notified. The theft is under investigation.

5:38 p.m. Officers and the Oberlin Police Department responded to Wilder Hall upon receiving a report that a male had taken a wallet from a student’s hand while she was at the ATM. The theft is under investigation.
