MRC Director Search Continues
Oberlin College will resume its search for a new director of the Multicultural Resource Center and a new associate dean of student life in the fall. The MRC search committee settled on a candidate after a lengthy approval process, but the candidate declined the position. Toni Myers, previous Africana community coordinator, will be coming to campus to interview for a one- year interim position on Saturday, March 12. A forum will be held on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Wilder 101 for students to offer feedback.
Commencement Speaker Announced
The Source announced that the 2016 commencement speaker will be opera legend and jazz singer Jessye Norman. She runs the Jessye Norman School for the Arts in Augusta, GA, a tuition-free program for middle school students who otherwise would not have access to private tutoring. She has worked with several nonprofit organizations and has won five Grammy Awards. Norman has been awarded 40 honorary doctorates from colleges and conservatories around the world.
NACS Hires New CEO
The National Association of College Stores recently hired a new CEO. Robert A. Walton, previous vice president for finance and administration at Vassar College, will be the fourth person to hold the position in the company’s 93-year history. The nonprofit trade association that represents the campus retail industry is headquartered in Oberlin. More than 3,000 college, university and K-12 school stores are members of NACS.
