Nico Vickers, Managing Editor

My name is Nico, my friends call me Leo, and I use any pronouns. I am Managing Editor of the Review and a member of Oberlin’s upcoming graduating class of 2022 double majoring in Creative Writing and Psychology with an education concentration. I came to Oberlin from metro Atlanta, then started at the Review in 2019 working as Layout Editor, Production Editor, 2020 Earth Day Special Issue Commentary Editor, and This Week Editor before joining senior staff. As shown particularly in my This Week work, I like to run surveys to tell stories with data, showcasing research, statistics, graphs, and personal themes across identity and positionality. Aside from those projects, I like to write television/movie reviews, compilation articles featuring voices from all corners of Oberlin, op-eds that identify injustice, inequality as I see it from my experience, and cultural celebrations. In my other writing, I lean toward the personal narrative — fiction and nonfiction. After graduation, I hope to find paid opportunities to hone my writing skills and be trained to instruct students, but for now when I’m not working on a creative new way to organize my life and this publication, you’ll likely find me around campus dancing, perhaps to Tyler, the Creator or Kali Uchis. Every once in a while, I appear on Twitter (@squirreldacious).
