Thursday, Feb. 4 1:24 a.m. Officers were requested to assist an ill student on the third floor of Langston Hall. An ambulance was requested, and the student was transported to Mercy Allen Hospital for treatment. Friday, Feb. 5 7:49 a.m. Staff reported graffiti in the Rice/King Building elevator. A “Priority One” mailing label with writing on it was stuck to the ceiling of the elevator. A work order was filed for removal. 8:19 a.m. Staff at the Science Center reported a small tear in the metal spire outside the southwest commons. It is currently unknown when the damage occurred. Thursday, Oct. 22 8:27 p.m. Student staff requested that officers pick up three bottles of wine found in the second floor kitchenette of Asia House. The wine was transported to the Security Office, where it was disposed. Friday, Oct. 23 4:32 a.m. Custodial staff reported water in the basement of the biology section of the Science Center. Officers responded and observed water leaking from the ceiling heating unit into the coils. The facilities manager on call was notified and maitenance staff responded. Students moving into dorms last weekend were greeted by a surprising sight: security cameras staring back in every residence hall entrance. To administrators such as Vice President and Dean of Students Eric Estes, the new security cameras represent a continuation of the existing practice of installing cameras into entranceways as the College renovates different residence halls. The presidential working group on Safety and Security recently sent students a survey asking for their experiences with and perceptions of Safety and Security. The working group is currently gathering information and tentatively plans to submit its recommendations for changes to Safety and Security policies before the start of the fall semester. “Our job is not to independently assert our ideas,” said Charles Peterson, associate professor of Africana Studies and a member of the working group. “We’re a filter; we gather information and then we form our recommendations. ... Thursday, April 30 6:41 a.m. A custodial staff member reported vandalism to the Langston Hall sign north of the dorm. At the time of the report, the sign had only one vertical post with the address. While investigating, officers found an unregistered bicycle in the dumpster behind Union Street apartments. A work order was filed for removal of the bicycle. 8:12 a.m. Members of the grounds staff reported a vehicle parked perpendicular in the Union Street parking lot. Thursday, Feb. 26 2:30 p.m. A student reported the loss or theft of their iPhone from the Wilder Bowl area. The phone was not in a case. The estimated value of the phone was $150. 7:38 p.m. A facilities technician responded to a low temperature alarm on the first floor of Kahn Hall. The technician found the window open, causing the thermostat not to function. There was an odor of burnt incense, and the smoke detector was found off its base. The bookbag is red and blue and contained a silver MacBook Air valued at $850, a small Canon camera, an iPhone charger, Apple ear buds, a book and folders. Friday, Oct. 31 3:06 p.m. Officers responded to an odor consistent with burnt marijuana on the first floor of East Hall.
